Christmas is a time for giving gifts, indulging in delicious food and spending time with your nearest and dearest. As your children are likely to be off from school during the festive period, you may be wondering how you are going to keep them occupied throughout the Christmas holiday?
One of the best ways to spend time with your family is to enjoy some of the more traditional Christmas activities. Trying to pull them away from their gadgets and gizmos may be a little difficult, but if your activities are fun and exciting you are sure to win them over!
Why not try these activities out with your children this Christmas:
Take to the ice
Although you may need to wrap your children up in several layers for this activity, ice-skating can be a very novel and fun activity for children. During the Christmas period there are many UK outdoor ice rinks that you can go to such as Eyeskate in London (situated by the London Eye). Take a look here for the best ice rinks across the UK.
Top tip: make sure your children are wearing full protective clothing and skating boots that are fitted tightly around the ankles.
Make a Pomander Ball
Creating some wonderful Christmas crafts is also a great activity for your children and will be sure to keep them busy whilst you are busy preparing for the big day! Why not show them how to make a zesty pomander ball that you can use to adorn the tree or hang up in your home for that extra festive feel? All you will need is some red ribbon, oranges and whole cloves so they are cheap yet effective to make! This might even inspire them to make more festive decorations such as angels out of paper plates, paper chains and Christmas cards.
Perfect Winter Walks
During the Christmas period there’s nothing better than throwing on your woollies and going for a lovely walk in the fresh air. It may feel a little chilly at first but once your children are out and about and running around, they are sure to waste some of their energy! For a nice touch, why not make hot chocolate and marshmallows so you can all warm up after a well-deserved walk?
Bake some mince pies or Christmas biscuits
So, what can you do if it is too treacherous to be outdoors? Baking some mince pies or Christmas biscuits is a great place to start and your children will feel incredibly proud to eat something that they have made themselves!
Although these traditional activities will be great fun for your children, they will also enjoy the excitement of opening up their Christmas present with you.
