Tips For Buying Christening Gifts

February 24th, 2010

Traditionally Christening gifts were not required from friends and family but these days it has become the norm to take a gift for the newly christened baby.  The grandparents, godparents and other close family members will want to give something that will be remembered and cherished so often a personalised gift is chosen.  In addition to this parents often buy godparent gifts to show their thanks for them taking on this important role.  A lovely idea is to give an engraved picture frame showing the baby’s name as a beautiful keepsake.

Most Christening gifts will be given on the day of the event as there is generally a reception following the service where everyone can get together.  However you may have bought a gift that you’d like to be used on the day itself such as booties.  Be careful that you have the permission of the parents in this situation to avoid any misunderstandings and provide the gift well in advance.

The most popular gifts are in the form of keepsakes such as photo albums, picture frames, blankets and figurines.  Another popular choice is a commemorative gift such as a silver cup or an engraved bracelet.

Family members may choose to give something with a religious theme such as a stuffed toy lamb or a bible.  Others may pass on family heirlooms such as baby quilts.

At Born Gifted, we have an extensive range of Christening gifts and godparents’ gifts so you need never run out of wonderful ideas for that special present.

Toys For A First Birthday

February 23rd, 2010

Your baby’s first birthday is an important milestone.  In the first year of a baby’s life there are so many changes and developments that take place.  By the time a baby has turned one year old they have learnt already so much about their sense through touch, taste, smell, sound and sight.  Babies are also becoming mobile and are likely to be taking their first tentative steps.  Within the 12 to 18 month age bracket they will be enjoying their new found sense of freedom and will delight in exploring their growing world and the people in it.  They become more independent but keep a beady eye on those close to them to stay safe.

Baby toys that will appeal at this age are those that appeal to the new stages of development.  Pull along baby toys are a good idea as they take their first wobbly steps.  Musical toys will also be a firm favourite as at this stage babies start to enjoy moving and dancing to music.  Toys that allow them to support themselves whilst walking are also a good choice.  Push walkers will help a babies legs to grow stronger but offer that all important support to avoid any tumbles.

At this stage, blocks are a great idea as babies will enjoy stacking blocks and filling up containers with them.  Their attention span tends to be very short at this stage so you want items that offer different activities that they can keep coming back to.

Here at Born Gifted we have a great selection of baby toys for first birthday gifts.

Ideas For Baby Toys In The First Year – Part 3

February 17th, 2010

In the first year there are some key baby toys that are guaranteed to delight little babies and help them to learn as well as entertain and amuse them.  A growing trend is for toys that combine a series of activities to stimulate a baby’s development.  They will include features that appeal to a baby’s developing senses.  Textures, colours, shapes and sounds are all intensely interesting to a curious baby explorer.  Here are some ideas for the types of activity baby toys available.

Activity tables will be appropriate to babies as they head into their ninth month.  At this stage they are becoming very curious about the world as they develop their ability to move and crawl, climb and stand up.  All things that they find of interest will be tasted, banged, thrown and felt.  An activity table will entertain a baby for long periods of time which will be greatly appreciated by many busy mums.  Musical baby toys play songs, have flashing lights, new sounds and different textures to explore.

From birth onwards, activity mats and play gyms will be a favourite place of exploration and fun for new babies.  From birth a baby can be lay down on its back to look at dangling toys and shapes or propped up on his tummy to develop important back muscles.  As the baby gets older they will start to reach out and grasp toys and feel the different textures.  Some play music and make sounds in response to touch and kicking.

At Born Gifted you will find a wide variety of activity baby toys to choose from.

Ideas For Baby Toys In The First Year – Part 2

February 16th, 2010

There are so many baby toys available these days it can seem an overwhelming task to choose baby gifts that will be loved and cherished by the baby and its parents.  As a first step think about the age of the baby as all good quality toys will have a recommended age range.  This will help you to narrow down the field of choice.  If there still seems a lot to choose from, and here are more ideas for baby toys that are firm favourites in the first year.

Rattles are an all time classic and a baby can never have enough rattles!  They combine to important functions – shaking and creating noise and also providing a much needed teething ring for aching gums.  Babies are automatically drawn to the bright colours and wonderful noises that rattles make.  They will enjoy the fact that through their own movements they make the rattle make a noise.  Babies explore with their mouths so choose rattles that can be easily chewed.  You can even get varieties that can be cooled in the fridge to soothe sore gums, acting as multi-functional baby toys.

As babies grow, parents try desperately to remember old nursery rhymes and songs to sing to their little ones.  It is an important part of baby’s development and helps even at this early stage for babies to learn how to communicate.  Baby CDs provide lots of ideas for songs and rhymes to delight and entertain babies.  You can also get some wonderful lullaby CDs to help soothe a baby into slumber.

Born Gifted has baby toys to suit all occasions and stages in development.

Ideas For Baby Toys In The First Year – Part 1

February 10th, 2010

When buying baby toys for the first year of a baby’s development, there is now a dizzying array of toys to choose from.  It can be quite a daunting task to choose something that will be appreciated and loved by both the baby and its parents.  So often baby toys can be ignored by babies and it is often the simpler more traditional ideas that capture their imaginations.

An old favourite that will always be a winner is stackable rings.  These toys can be found in many guises but have been a firm favourite with children for decades.  It is brilliant for developing expert hand-eye coordination in babies as they learn to take the rings off and put them back on the stack.  Initially, a baby may simply love to hold and chew the rings.  Some designs will have different textures for the baby to explore and rattles and noises to delight baby ears.  It will also teach the baby to notice colours and different sizes.

Musical toys are always a big hit with babies.  They will delight in pressing buttons that make noises and play music.  Lullabies will soothe and entertain babies and many musical toys also have motion features.  You can choose toys with the aim of lulling a baby to sleep with gentle music or ocean noises, for example.

Alternatively, you may choose baby toys to stimulate and excite a baby’s rapidly developing mind.

At Born Gifted we specialise in beautiful baby toys.

Beautiful Christening Gifts To Express A Baby’s Faith

February 9th, 2010

A Christening is a traditional and religious celebration and tends to happen when babies are around six months old – however, parents may choose to have their baby’s christening day earlier or later depending on their preference.  The day marks the baby being welcomed into the church and their chosen godparents pledging to guide them in the chosen faith in the future.  It is also an event that brings together the family and friends of the parents to celebrate this special day and it is traditional to bring Christening gifts in recognition.

If you want to give a present with a religious theme then the obvious choice is a bible.  There are some stunning bibles that can be personalised with both the baby’s name and the date of the christening, which will be kept and treasured for years.  If you want to look at something a little different for baby gifts, but want to maintain the religious element, here are some ideas.

Any gift with a cross on it will make a perfect gift for a christening.  There are some that babies can enjoy and play with straight away whereas other will be kept safe as a keepsake.  Music boxes, money boxes and rattles are just some ideas as well as albums, memory boxes and picture frames.

If you want to keep things traditional then as well as bibles there are plaques with biblical verses, rosaries and personalised candles depending on the faith.

At Born Gifted you’ll find many ideas for beautiful christening gifts.

Finding The Perfect Christening Gift

February 4th, 2010

No sooner than the baby arrived do the months fly by, and before you know it a Christening invitation may have hit the doormat.  This is often an exciting time for parents when they get their family and friends together to celebrate their child being welcomed into their church or faith.  Besides the religious aspects, it can be first time the parents have seen all their nearest and dearest to show off the baby since the birth.  If you have been invited you will want to choose christening gifts that will be appreciated and held onto.  Here are some ideas.

As a baby is far too young to understand what all the fuss is about you may choose to buy baby toys.  If you want to keep the religious theme in mind then choose stuffed animals which are associated with the Bible perhaps such as lambs, or animals that are mentioned in the Noah’s Ark story.

A snuggly blanket can be personalised and a cross added to celebrate the day.  If you want to make it extra meaningful, get the Christening date included also.

A keepsake may not be appreciated immediately by the baby but in years to come, they can look back with their parents on the special day.  These types of baby gifts, including pewter cups and ornaments, will be no doubt displayed in a treasured place and looked upon with great nostalgia.  Other ideas for keepsakes are silver boxes, snow globes, birth plates, keepsake shoes, memory books and picture frames.

Here at Born Gifted we have a wide selection of christening gifts to make the day really special.

Snuggle Babies In Blankets

February 3rd, 2010

When it comes to baby gifts you can’t go wrong with a beautiful baby blanket to keep the new arrival snuggled and warm.  They can be used in many situations from swaddling a newborn, to providing privacy to a nursing mum to simply keeping the baby warm in her cot, pram or car seat.  They are a great addition to any nurseries and can be used to add a splash of colour to neutral designs.  In the summer they are a great way of shading the baby from the sun if you get caught by surprise in our brief British summers, and can be used as a soft and clean place to lie and play on the ground.

As baby gifts, the versatility of baby blankets means you will always be appreciated by the parents.  In short, you can never have enough baby blankets!

If you are trying to choose a baby blanket as a newborn baby’s gift, there are a few things you can bear in mind.  Obviously, think about the parents.  Are they traditional in their approach or do they opt for the more contemporary look?  If they like the traditional baby garb then soft woolen fabrics in pastel shades will appeal most.  If they have a modern leaning then look out for baby blankets with bold and colourful prints.

Another lovely touch is to have the baby blanket personalised with the baby’s name, and perhaps date of birth.  A discreet touch is to have the initial of the baby embroidered on the blanket.

At Born Gifted we have a beautiful range of baby gifts to choose from.

Choosing Baby Gifts

February 2nd, 2010

When a friend or relative has a baby we all want to get involved and there is no better way than buying newborn baby gifts. However, when it comes to buying baby toys, clothes and other paraphernalia it can be a daunting task – particularly if you don’t have children yourself.

Here are the main trends in baby gifts.

There is a plethora of baby gifts available out there, but nowadays people want their presents to be remembered specially and are opting to make their present extra special. This can mean getting the present made personally. This can make a charming gift, but the disadvantage is that unless you know the baby’s family very well you may run the risk of giving baby gifts that are not to their taste. The baby gift may end up stored in a cupboard or even thrown away. However, if you know the family well choosing a personalised baby gift can make it a much treasured item and one held on to for many years.

Many people opt for the more practical route. In this category you have baby toiletries, baby clothes, baby toys and vouchers for stores. This is often a good choice because no matter how much a couple plans the arrival of their baby, they will always forget some essential items and your present will be appreciated greatly at a time when they have no time to think!

Here at Born Gifted we have a beautiful range of baby toys and baby gifts for all occasions.

Toys For Small Babies

January 25th, 2010

Newborn and very young babies are at a very early stage of development and consequently can’t to do anything. Given that, some may wonder what the point is in giving baby toys as baby gifts for the new arrival. They won’t know what the toys are or what to do with them so surely it is better to concentrate on practical items for mum and dad.
In fact, small babies are working hard at learning pretty much from the moment they are born and the baby toys they receive are some of their tools in this work.
At this stage, the baby is learning to use all their senses, of sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste and baby toys can be used to help in the development of all of these.
Here at Born Gifted, we have musical toys that will encourage a small baby to notice these musical sounds and to listen for them. As they develop some muscle control, they will start to try to turn their head to see where the sound is coming from.
Soft toys made of crochet are good for small fingers to grasp and through this, the baby is learning about how things feel to the touch. Toys with bright colours and bold shapes are easier to see for small babies, whose eyes are learning to focus.
Remember that as soon as a baby is able to hold things, everything will be put to the taste test as well, so make sure all the baby’s toys are safe when they are put in the mouth.
