Organic Cotton Baby Gifts

May 27th, 2010

Organic cotton is an eco friendly choice because no chemical fertilisers or pesticides are used to grow the plants that ultimately provide the fibres that go into the materials used to make clothing and blankets. For the environment, the problems with non-organic agriculture start when it rains. Excess fertiliser and pesticides wash off the plants and soil and into streams, rivers, and water sources. The fertilisers can cause toxic algal blooms that poison water sources and pesticides are pretty nasty chemicals to begin with. Organic farmers use natural and eco-friendly methods to grow their cotton and protect it from insects.

Because organic cotton has never been exposed to harsh chemicals and poisons, it’s a great material for baby gifts. Babies have highly sensitive, soft skin that needs protecting. We think organic cotton is one of the best fabrics for newborn baby gifts and clothes for very young children for that reason.

Choosing an organic cotton baby gift also shows that you’ve put a little extra thought in. Not only does it say that you care about the environment this new human being will grow up into, but you have also chosen something that is the best possible choice for them and their comfort and wellbeing.

We have a range of other baby gifts that make an environmental statement with natural materials. Have a look at our wooden toys, for example, or choose a soft lamb’s wool blanket. There are also a wide variety of traditionally styled crochet blankets and toys.

Traditional Baby and Toddler Toys

May 19th, 2010

It can be quite hard to make a gift stand out from the crowd, especially when giving a newborn baby gift to the first born of a new generation. The little one is probably dwarfed by a huge pile of baby gifts from delighted grandparents alone. While that’s wonderful, at Born Gifted we like to sell baby and toddler toys that say something special.

One of the best ways to find a distinctive gift for a young child is to look at more traditionally styled toys. Often it is the old designs that last the longest. They’ve stood the test of time and you can be pretty sure you’re getting a good, useful item that kids will enjoy. Classic baby and toddler toys like wooden xylophones, blocks, and rag dolls are simple, but they are still as loved by small children as they were half a century ago, with good reason.

Wooden puzzles are some of the best educational toys for the very young. Fancy electronics and noisemakers have their place, but simple things can be very effective, and a cleverly made set of lettered blocks that fit together in the right order is still one of the best ways to introduce a toddler to the alphabet.

Parents can enjoy more traditional baby toys as well. We have a range of beautifully crafted crochet toy animals, for example, that kids will adore for the colours and textures of the wool and adults will appreciate for the traditional craft values they represent.

Educational Toys

May 13th, 2010

At Born Gifted, we believe that the best educational baby toys are sometimes the simplest. There is no doubt that they last longer than expensive electronic baby and toddler toys, too.

Newborn baby gifts aren’t usually chosen with an educational eye, and nor should they be, but even something as basic as a rattle will encourage babies to pick things up, move them around, and acquire motor skills as they get a little older. Anything is brightly coloured and easy to grasp is an educational baby toy and will encourage development.

As the baby grows into a toddler, the range of educational toys gets much greater. Movement is still something to consider, but you can introduce sit on toys and pull-along animals to help them start to walk and get from place to place.

You can also start to give puzzles with big, infant-friendly pieces. They may not fit them together straight away, but gradually they’ll learn about shapes and will discover the fine motor skills needed to place things exactly where they should be and mesh the pieces together.  We have a terrific range of simple wooden educational toys designed to introduce numbers and letters to older toddlers too.

As toddlers grow, there are other baby toys that teach valuable skills. A plush character backpack, for example, will help them learn to keep their things tidy. Once they grow into more active children, it’s well worth laying the groundwork and get them looking after their own toys and books using fun tools like that.

Baby Gifts – colour their world

March 11th, 2010

A baby is a gift unwrapped, which should only be opened with love.  But when we buy baby gifts out of love, especially in the form of clothing, why do we buy baby grows in blue for a boy and pink for a girl?

Even the paper we choose to wrap our baby gifts is selected by gender.  Are we driven by evolutionary instinct?  Theorists believe that females prefer reds and pinks as they are associated with their hunter gatherer days.  Whilst men hunted, women gathered fruits and vegetables; therefore, females became attuned to the blush of ripe fruits.  They were also aware of their children’s ruddy faces which were associated with illness. Men prefer blues as they signified good weather and a good water source.  This provided information on feeding and watering grounds where animals could be hunted.

So, the next time you look for newborn baby gifts, will you be influenced by your evolutionary instincts?  Or will you opt out of the great colour divide and buy clothes in greens or yellows?

Whenever we choose to buy childrens toys or clothing, it is easy to spot the gender difference.  Are we boxing our children into set standards?  Research shows that colours are important for youngsters as it helps them to establish their sex. As they become older, freedom of choice releases the constraints of the pink/blue barrier and does not cause any long term gender issues in later life.

Sibling Baby Gifts

March 10th, 2010

A brother or sister shares the memories of childhood and grown-up dreams, but how do we teach our toddler to accept a new baby into the fold?

Whilst it may be easy for parents to adjust to the role change, your toddler may have some serious difficulties coping with someone new stealing the limelight when you bring your baby home.

Include your child in as many of the preparations as possible.  One good way to do this is to encourage him/her to buy some baby gifts for their little brother or sister.  This is a great way to help your youngster form a mental bond with baby.

There are many wonderful ideas on the market right now.  Let your child hand pick baby gifts that they would personally like to give.  They do not have to be elaborate, just simple things such as small teddies or rattles.

Whilst your little one is pondering over which gift to lavish upon baby, it may even be a nice gesture to look at baby toys.  Whenever you buy something for the pending arrival, you should always remember to buy a little something for your other child, too.  One good idea is a book which could gently explain how things will be when baby arrives home.  The range is vast and toddler toys fluctuate from puzzle games through to riding on playthings.

Children learn by example.  By highlighting all of the good reasons to having a new addition in the family, your child will gently adapt to sharing life with another and equally enjoy the benefits.

Educational Baby Toys – do they take the fun out of learning?

March 4th, 2010

Every day we are making deposits into the memory bank of our baby’s lives, from our smile through to the baby gifts that we give to amuse, educate and stimulate.  However, are there disadvantages to toys which are simply used for pleasure and advantages to those which have an educational slant?

No baby should be without a rattle or a teddy, but a baby’s brain is like a sponge which is constantly soaking up knowledge.  Whilst teddy bears make wonderful presents for a girl, when the paws are chewed and the eye is hanging, there is very little left in the form of educational value to stimulate the senses.

Educational baby toys do not have to be serious and rigid.  Learning should be fun.  Make the most out of these early years and shape your baby’s future from the moment he/she arrives home.

Until a child reaches six months, their vision will be fuzzy, hearing weak and grip feeble.  Brightly coloured building blocks make great educational toys as they help young eyes to differentiate between shades and encourage sharper vision and visual intelligence.  They also help refine motor skills.

Help your little one to respond to sound by hanging crib mobiles above the cot.  These make perfect newborn baby gifts.  Play hammers go down well; especially if they make a squeaking sound every time that they hit something.  Toys such as these will intrigue young minds.

However, there will always be one favourite toy which money cannot buy, and that is you.  Bring out your best and worst facial expressions, play peek a boo or just do a silly walk or dance and your baby will be chuckling for hours!

What is in a Name?

March 2nd, 2010

The name that you choose for your baby will become his/her prime identity for life, which is why parents spend a lot of time deliberating over the name of their baby. The following points should be considered when pinning a lifelong label on your newborn.

Unusual names – Family and friends are always keen to know a baby’s name so they can go out and buy those personalised newborn baby gifts.  However, parents need to choose a name with prudence.  After all, it is the child who has to carry around this title for a lifetime. Most children find it hard to fit in, so giving a child a weird and wacky name could have a detrimental effect on self image, confidence and future development.  It could even encourage teasing.

Religious names – Some people believe that a religious name carries spiritual and religious meanings and will bestow great blessings over the individual.  Parents who give their child a religious name are optimistic that their baby will be protected throughout life and will be bestowed with many blessings.  Buying personalised christening gifts is also easier as many are embossed with familiar names from the bible such as Matthew, Simon, Bethany and Mary.

Naming your child is one of the most precious new born baby gifts that you can give, so choose it with care and love.  It is also important to ensure that when combined with the surname, both titles make a total name; one which sounds influentially acceptable when combined with the first name.

Here at Born Gifted, we supply a range of baby gifts suitable for any gender or personal preference.

Snuggle Babies In Blankets

February 3rd, 2010

When it comes to baby gifts you can’t go wrong with a beautiful baby blanket to keep the new arrival snuggled and warm.  They can be used in many situations from swaddling a newborn, to providing privacy to a nursing mum to simply keeping the baby warm in her cot, pram or car seat.  They are a great addition to any nurseries and can be used to add a splash of colour to neutral designs.  In the summer they are a great way of shading the baby from the sun if you get caught by surprise in our brief British summers, and can be used as a soft and clean place to lie and play on the ground.

As baby gifts, the versatility of baby blankets means you will always be appreciated by the parents.  In short, you can never have enough baby blankets!

If you are trying to choose a baby blanket as a newborn baby’s gift, there are a few things you can bear in mind.  Obviously, think about the parents.  Are they traditional in their approach or do they opt for the more contemporary look?  If they like the traditional baby garb then soft woolen fabrics in pastel shades will appeal most.  If they have a modern leaning then look out for baby blankets with bold and colourful prints.

Another lovely touch is to have the baby blanket personalised with the baby’s name, and perhaps date of birth.  A discreet touch is to have the initial of the baby embroidered on the blanket.

At Born Gifted we have a beautiful range of baby gifts to choose from.

Choosing Baby Gifts

February 2nd, 2010

When a friend or relative has a baby we all want to get involved and there is no better way than buying newborn baby gifts. However, when it comes to buying baby toys, clothes and other paraphernalia it can be a daunting task – particularly if you don’t have children yourself.

Here are the main trends in baby gifts.

There is a plethora of baby gifts available out there, but nowadays people want their presents to be remembered specially and are opting to make their present extra special. This can mean getting the present made personally. This can make a charming gift, but the disadvantage is that unless you know the baby’s family very well you may run the risk of giving baby gifts that are not to their taste. The baby gift may end up stored in a cupboard or even thrown away. However, if you know the family well choosing a personalised baby gift can make it a much treasured item and one held on to for many years.

Many people opt for the more practical route. In this category you have baby toiletries, baby clothes, baby toys and vouchers for stores. This is often a good choice because no matter how much a couple plans the arrival of their baby, they will always forget some essential items and your present will be appreciated greatly at a time when they have no time to think!

Here at Born Gifted we have a beautiful range of baby toys and baby gifts for all occasions.
