Created in 1969 by Eric Carle, The Very Hungry Caterpillar started as a children’s book about a caterpillar that eats his way through a variety of different foods before pupating and eventually emerging as a beautiful butterfly. The success of the book is largely due to the educational themes which complement the main story and allow children to familiarise themselves with topics such as counting, different foods, days of the weeks and the life stages of a butterfly.
Much like the caterpillar of the story, the character has blossomed into a multitude of fabulous products all featuring our grub-like hero in his different life stages and suitable from the smallest baby upwards.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Activity Toy boasts a whole host of different colours, textures and sounds for baby to explore. The different functions of the toy can be learnt as baby develops and grows. The word ‘activity’ really is the key with this amazing toy.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar 3 Piece Dinner Set from the Portmeirion china company continues to be one of our most popular sets. The clean, white porcelain base makes the vibrant colours really pop out and children will love getting to the end of their dinner so they can see the caterpillar. The 3-piece set comes packaged in a fabulous themed box with a wibbly wobbly caterpillar on the front, which is perfect for keeping treasure in when empty.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar Jack in a Box puts a new twist on a very traditional toy. The box has a metal body which is beautifully painted in the book’s collage style illustrations and when the handle on the side is turned, the music starts playing ‘Pop Goes the Weasel’, just as we get to the ‘pop’ part, the caterpillar appears from out the top of the box!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar range remains as popular as ever and we are set to expand it with lots of exiting new products in the near future, so keep a keen eye on our colourful friend as we are sure you are going to love what’s coming.
