Easter – where do bunnies and eggs come into it?
You won’t be surprised to know that Easter is the most important Christian festival. Easter commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the date changes every year (in Western Christianity, Easter is celebrated on the Sunday immediately after the Paschal Full Moon date)
The Easter Bunny and the Easter egg are thought to originate, not from any Christian beliefs but from an early pagan festival celebrating the arrival of spring. In fact most of what people generally think of as Easter gifts (eggs, bunnies, flowers, chicks) all have Pagan routes and were later incorporated into the Christian Easter festival. Eostra was a goddess of spring and fertility for 13th century Europeans and this is where the rabbit comes into the story, as a fertility symbol.
Alternative Easter Gifts for Babies
Whatever the origins of Easter, there’s no denying that the occasion seems to grow in popularity year after year and there’s no better way to celebrate than by presenting an Easter gift. Most people favour Easter eggs, however when buying first Easter gifts it may be more appropriate to avoid chocolate altogether and but them a cuddly toy or personalised egg cup. Born Gifted offer lots of fabulous alternative 1st Easter gifts for boys and girls.
Happy Easter to all our customers!
